Fridge Shakers , Do Your Stuff

Have you ever noticed that when you get home from doing a weeks’ shopping you put it all away and the cupboards look no more full and you still don’t have anything that you fancy to eat?

It’s as if there’s a shop that you’ve been to that sells magical American fridge freezers which you just cannot fill, unless, for some reason, you buy peas. Fridge freezers always seem to be filled up with peas.

The opposite of the person who can never find anything to eat, even when the fridge is full is what we know as the ‘fridge shaker’ the kind of guy or gal who can go up to a seemingly barren cupboard and in twenty minutes make a superb meal, including desert out of a stock cube, a packet of pasta shapes and a half eaten can of beans.

I picked up the knack in college, always short of cash and never seeming to have the time to get to the supermarket I developed a skill of finding a use for everything. For example, potatoes are pretty bland so they can take the flavour of pretty much anything, baked potatoes with jam taste not dissimilar to cakes while chips with sugar on taste rather like donuts.

trawling thought whatever there was in the cupboards and tuning in to late night cookery shows made for the young and the feckless stood me in good stead for life as an adult as you just get a feeling for what will work when you stick it in a pan together together. My friend told me about the time her mother went to hospital to give birth to her sister, her dad thought the one ingredient for spaghetti bolognaise that was missing might be gherkins. It wasn’t.

Once you’ve got through all that cooking you’re going to want to think about dishwashers to take care of all the mess you just made.
